I built Wildflower Wax Co. in my childhood bedroom when I was 16. It quickly became one of Singapore’s foremost vinyl record stores for Gen-Z. By the time I turned 18, it had grown into a brick-and-mortar location – a thing of my dreams. Wildflower was featured on Esquire, Vogue, CNA Lifestyle, Singapore Art Week, etc.
And like many record collectors, I eventually found my way into this thing called advertising.
After much deliberation, I still think it’s one of the best careers in the world to have.
I first cut my teeth in the creative department, starting at BLKJ Havas as a copywriter, then I went to VICE (Virtue Worldwide) as a creative/producer.
At 20, I quit my job(s), sold my record store, and moved to the U.S. for Northwestern University – a place so cold I couldn’t wear my favorite article of clothing anymore: shorts.
Fortunately, I could wear shorts quite freely again, when I moved to California in sophomore year to intern at Apple’s Marcom as a Design Writer, on the Identity team. (Some of the best times of my life were had.)
After that, I moved to Washington and became a politics reporter for the Medill News Service, reporting daily on Congress and the Trump administration. I’ve been published in the Washington Post for my live coverage of Virginia’s governor race on that landmark week of American elections. And while I tried my best, no, I haven’t seen him. (🍊)
I’m always seeking ways to marry creative problem solving with my obsession about understanding how the world works.
I’m excited by nostalgia, writing for no audience (and all of it), counterculture, music turned up loud, and the work, the work, the work.
If you might have a clue on what that looks like, or just want to say hi,
please drop me a line.
(Wow, you read the whole damn thing. Thank you. 🍪
