Polaroid by JX Soo
I’m a writer, producer, and strategist living in the San Francisco Bay Area, currently a Design Writer (intern) at Apple. I was born and raised in Singapore in 2003.
I moved to the U.S in 2023 to study Journalism, American Studies, and Art, Theory & Practice at Northwestern University, where I’m deeply engaged in ideas about the post-Internet condition, art and labor, and the social and visual cultures of postmodern Americana.
I built Wildflower Wax Co. when I was 16, Singapore’s most popular Gen-Z record store. It lived a life in retail and was featured on places like Esquire, CNA Lifestyle and Singapore Art Week. I sold the store when I was 20 and moved to America shortly after for college.
As record collectors often do, I also worked in advertising. I cut my teeth in the creative department, starting at BLKJ Havas and VICE as a copywriter/producer.
Now, I co-lead Lacking Agency, a cultural intelligence firm with Gabrielle Ang, help the Singapore government support our American diaspora through Red Dot Link, and think about my life, a lottttt, in my last weeks in the Golden State, wondering if I should move to New York or not.
I’m always seeking ways to marry creative problem solving with finding out what makes people, things, and movements click.
I try to look at everything with my East meets West lens.
I’m excited by nostalgia, writing for no audience, counterculture, music turned up loud, and the work, the work, the work.
Right now, I’m figuring out a path forward in my career that will involve these things, with good projects, and even better people.
If you might have a clue, or just want to say hi, please drop me a line.
