hi 👋  i’m ashley

Bio

I’m a creative, producer, and writer living in the San Francisco Bay Area. I was born & raised in Singapore in 2003. I currently attend Northwestern University, majoring in Journalism, American Studies, and Art, Theory & Practice, where I’m deeply engaged in scholarship of the post-Internet times, art & labor, postmodern Americana visual and social cultures.

Footsteps

I built Wildflower Wax Co. when I was 16, Singapore’s most popular Gen-Z record store. Once upon a time, it lived a life in retail, and was featured on Esquire, CNA and Singapore Art Week.

I also cut my teeth in the advertising world, starting at VICE & BLKJ Havas, where being a creative were my first tastes of bread and butter.

Now, I lead Lacking Agency, a cultural positioning/strategy firm with Gabs Ang, and help the Singapore government support an American diaspora through Red Dot Link, all while trying to make it through Chicago winters at Northwestern University.

Now, I’m unconvering a deep seated love for California, at Apple as a Design Writer intern.

Happiness

I’m always seeking ways to marry creative problem solving with finding out what makes people, things, and movements click. I am trying to figure a path forward in my career that might look like this - if you have a clue,  drop me a line. I try to look at everything with my East meets West lens. I’m excited by the Grateful Dead, nostalgia, writing for no audience, counterculture, music turned up loud, and the work, the work, the work.
